Oral Health Assessments

To many, known as a dental checkup, these are simply to see if any fillings are required and to check the general health of your teeth… However, there is far more to these checkups and their importance cannot be over-stated!

A regular checkup will look at the following:

  1. Check for mouth cancer.

This is one of the most important things your dentist will do at every check-up. Dentists will do an examination for signs of mouth cancer, as well as head and neck cancer.

  1. Dental hygiene advice.

Dental hygienists are mainly concerned with ‘preventive’ dental health and treating gum disease – showing you correct home care and helping you to keep your teeth and gums healthy.

  1. They can catch things early or prevent them from happening.

With just a mirror you can see how your teeth are looking but underneath your gums a lot can be going on without you even realising it.

Dental Fillings

Dental fillings are used to repair damage to the structure of a tooth or teeth. Structural damage can be caused as a result of tooth decay, wear or trauma.

After the removal of the damaged or problem tooth material, this area of the tooth is filled in with one of 3 possible materials: Amalgam, Gold, Porcelain or Composite Resin (which is typically white). Each material has different properties and benefits. So remember to ask your dentist more before making your choice.

Crowns

When it comes to Crowns, our primary concern is the health of the damaged tooth and your gums. However, we also ensure you are left with a smile to be proud of.

Dental crowns are caps placed on top of damaged teeth. Crowns are used to protect, cover and restore the shape of your teeth when fillings don’t solve the problem. They are typically made from metals, porcelain, resin and ceramics.

Root Canal Treatment

The infection at the centre of a tooth (the root canal) is caused by bacteria that live in the mouth and invade the tooth. This can happen after: tooth decay, leaky fillings, damage to teeth as a result of trauma (such as a fall).

Before having root canal treatment, you’ll usually be given a local anaesthetic. This means the procedure should be painless and no more unpleasant than having a filling.

Composite Bonding

Composite bonding is a pain-free and cost effective way to improve the look of your smile!

Bonding is the process of using composite resins to ‘glue’ materials to the surface of a tooth for restorative purposes. Structurally damaged teeth are typically repaired through bonding. An enamel-like composite material is applied to the surface of a tooth, sculpted into shape, contoured and polished, making the damage invisible.

Using a thin layer of coloured composite resin, your dentist will match the individual tooth colour to make the addition seamless. This will improve the look of your teeth with no drilling or numbing required.

Composite bonded teeth can be more prone to damage if they are not maintained correctly. So patients must ensure good oral hygine and care.
